; In this article the matter of metaphorical modeling of the conceptual dyad "one's own alien" in the novel "Telluria" by V. Sorokin is considered. Basic types of metaphors that represent opposition "one's own alien" and historical prototypes of fictional propaganda of the book are found. The methods used in the research are based on the theory of conceptual metaphor worked out by G. Lakoff and M. Johnson, theory of metaphorical modeling (N. D. Arutyunova, E.S. Kubryakova, A. P. Chudinov) and the theory of concepts of V. I. Karasik. ; The present study is dedicated to discovering the conceptual metaphors that are used by the Russian pro-government and opposition media in order to provide a particular perspective of the conflict that has taken place since December, 2013. By applying the theory of conceptual metaphor and methods of discourse analysis, we highlight both the sources of metaphor (disease / madness, commerce, theater, game, crime) and its targets (Russian and Ukrainian political leaders, peoples, and territories). We also analyze the axiological dimension of these metaphors and discover that in both types of media these metaphors are used to portray the sides of the conflict in a negative light, albeit with different targets.
; Modern linguistics treats metaphoric modelling of reality as the basic mental activity, the way to structure and explain the world. The article studies how Churchill's metaphor models describe a real war event. In cognitive linguistics metaphoric modelling is a way of reconstruction of the author's mental models of the figurative perception of the world. The hypothesis of the paper is based on the theretical ideas of the Americal historian and literary critic Hayden White who compares the use of tropes in the historical discourse with the embodiment of the author's soul. The historian, according to this concept, is constantly in search for the necessary metaphor and figurative representation of the historical past; the historical narration always contains the elements of interpretation and suggests the structure of the past, which has no structure of its own, and therefore this structure is new in every new text. The article presents the fragments of interpretation of the contexts of metaphor models. The material for research is the memoires of the ex-Prime Minister of Great Britain, the only of the three political leaders of "The Grand Alliance", whose thoughts were expressed with the help of metaphors; the memoires made the bases for the further Anglo-Saxon historiography of World War II. Contextual metaphorical analysis revealed the dominant metaphor models and their potential in reconstruction of the individual language picture. The interpretation of these language pictures depends on the perception of the dominant models, such as "a Nation/state a Person"; "a Nation/state a Criminal/Friend/Alien/Victim".

; The paper provides analysis of functions of the metaphor in scientific historical texts. The system of metaphorical models actualised in the system of image nominations in the text of The Complete Course of Russian History by S.F. Platonov. The relevance of investigation of systems of metaphorical nominations of scientific texts is determined firstly by the interest of modern linguistics in studying deep cognitive mechanisms and their language representations in textual structures of various discourses. Cognitive linguistics begins a new stage of studying the character of speech and intellectual activity. The language itself is not considered as a separate isolated system but rather as a part of a whole, a part of a linguamental mechanism. The analysis of cognitive processes, which lie in the basis of generation of linguistic units of various levels as well as in the basis of speech generation processes, is one of the main objectives of modern cognitive linguistics. Researches in this field develop the concept that there is a mutual dependence between cognitive and language structures, moreover, the language form does not merely reflect cognitive mechanisms, but rather takes an active part in their organization. The metaphor plays an important role among language forms of representation of cognitive processes. One of the main aspects of metaphor, which is in the focus of latest scientific researches, is its semantic modelling capability. Secondly, the relevance of the subject of research represented in this paper is determined by the fact that development of cognitive science in the end of the 20th again raised the problem of scientific thinking patterns in relation to the opposition of patterns of reflection of reality for mathematics, humanities and natural sciences, as well as in relation to the role of certain scientific thinking pattern in cognition. The problem of scientific cognition patterns in turn brings up the problem of language marking, which is solved using the theory of conceptual metaphor. This paper is focused on studying functions of conceptual metaphors represented in the system of image lexical nominations in scientific historical texts. The subject of the research in this paper is the metaphorical modelling of the process of historical reality, represented in the scientific text. The objective of the research is to analyse the metaphorical representation of historical process by a Russian historian S.F. Platonov represented in The Complete Course of Russian History, as well as to determine the ways of metaphorical reflection of specific interpretation of the historical process by this author, particularly, his image of the stages of political, economic and cultural development of his country, his attitude to authorities and people, their living conditions and response to important events in their country.

This article presents a framework for the linguistic analysis of political discourse, offering some insight into how the online press currently determines the worldview of their readers. Drawing on critical discourse analysis and conceptual metaphor theory, we consider how the metaphorical models, offered by G. Lakoff for decoding the US foreign policy, can be applied to analyse patterns of metaphorical representation used to construct the political reality of foreign policy, required by the US interest groups. This paper argues that this metaphorical system is incomplete for conceptualising US policy in the Ukraine conflict, and claims that the cognitive model is determined by the context in which it is used and, consequently, by the perspective adopted.
